Wire sawing · Sydney

Wire sawing for sections too big for any blade.

Diamond wire sawing for massive, heavily reinforced and awkwardly shaped concrete: columns, beams, footings, piers and bridge elements. Where a blade runs out of depth, the wire keeps cutting.

Every saw blade has a maximum depth. A diamond wire saw doesn't. A continuous loop of steel cable studded with diamond beads is wrapped around or threaded through the concrete and pulled through it under tension by a hydraulic drive. As it runs, it cuts through concrete and reinforcing steel alike.

That makes wire sawing the method for the biggest and most difficult cuts: thick foundations and footings, columns and transfer beams, piers, bridge decks, machine bases and heavily reinforced structures. Because the wire wraps around the section, it also handles irregular shapes that a straight blade can't follow.

Wire sawing is quiet, low-vibration and wet-cut. It is well suited to demolition in occupied buildings or close to sensitive structures where breaking would be unacceptable.

Controlled demolition of heavy structures

On demolition and alteration works, wire sawing lets heavy elements be cut into large, liftable blocks and removed by crane instead of being broken up in place. That reduces noise, dust and vibration and can significantly cut the time on site.

Typical work includes cutting out columns and beams, removing footings and pile caps, and sectioning large slabs and walls.

Planning a wire saw job

Wire sawing needs planning: access holes are cored for the wire to pass through, the section is supported and rigged for lifting, and the cut sequence is agreed with your engineer and builder.

We'll walk the job, look at the drawings and work through the method with you before quoting.

What's included

Wire Sawing scope.

The core of what we deliver. Every job is quoted to the site, so tell us what you need and we'll tailor the scope.

Columns and beams

Cutting out and removing heavy structural elements.

Footings and pile caps

Thick foundations and machine bases.

Bridge and civil structures

Decks, piers and heavy civil concrete.

Large wall and slab sections

Sectioning into blocks for crane removal.

Irregular shapes

Cuts around shapes that a straight blade can't follow.

Heavily reinforced concrete

Cuts through dense steel and concrete together.

Our process

How the job runs.

Planned before we arrive, scanned where it matters, wet-cut and cleaned up before we leave.

Step 1

Method planning

Agree cut sequence, support and lifting with your engineer.

Step 2

Core access holes

Core holes so the wire can be threaded through.

Step 3

Rig and cut

Wire tensioned and pulled through under controlled conditions.

Step 4

Lift out

Blocks rigged and removed, cut faces left clean.

FAQs

Wire Sawing questions.

Can't see your question? Call 0400 929 963.

When is wire sawing used instead of wall sawing?

When the section is too thick for a blade, too heavily reinforced, or an irregular shape. Wire sawing has no practical depth limit.

Is wire sawing safe near occupied buildings?

It is one of the quietest, lowest-vibration ways to cut heavy concrete, which makes it well suited to sensitive sites. The cut is planned and managed carefully, including support and lifting.

Does wire sawing cut through steel reinforcement?

Yes. The diamond wire cuts concrete and reinforcing steel together.

Do you supply cranes for lifting?

Lifting is usually arranged by the builder or a crane provider. We coordinate the cut sequence and rigging points with them.

How do I get a price for wire sawing?

Send us drawings and photos, or book a site visit. Wire sawing is priced on the size of the section, the access and the method.
